my dear, i love my doggies but had absolutely no idea what dirt and hair and other yucky stuff they bring into a house. we have to plan our trips around the dogs and of course, some places do not take dogs. we pack all kinds of stuff just for the dogsand they take up the whole back seat once they are seat belted in. i always have bruises from buster using me as a launching pad, but maybe labs don't consider themselves lap dogs. they are noisy, costly and always underfoot. i wouldnt trade them. they allow me to go hiking by myself and feel perfectly safe, (on trails just on the outskirts of town, not the mountains,. however, having pets does prevent some people from being able to stay over because of allergies. anyway, i love my dogs, didn't get my first dog until i was 39. we were raised to believe they were dirty, which they certainly do track around. especially during the muddy season. we ended up taking out the carpet cuz it was too hard to keep clean ....... anyway, i love my doggies and don't know what i'll do when it is time.... they are afterall,12, and buster is showing signs of aging. oh what a world, what a world, (what movie is that line from?) dot

I agree with you 100% on how beneficial pets can be to a family. It's not just about the companionship, it's the unconditional love and devotion. And if that is what you are looking for, labs are where it's at! I hope you find a perfect dog that completes your family. :)
