Our Little Man

So we’re sitting on the couch before putting Lindsay to bed, and
Heather’s got Emery sitting on her lap, facing out.  The TV’s on,
and all is peaceful.

As some backstory, Emery’s finally started
making intentional vocalizations, both in response to things he likes,
and talking from others.  Smiling too.

So Heather starts
flipping channels, and during the course of a relatively brief span of
time, he makes three distinct "happy" noises.  They coincided with
crocodiles, Ted Nugent, and steak.  Our little boy.

No Longer Wise

It’s unclear to me why going to work after getting my teeth pulled
is such unexpected behaviour.  As well as Carrie and Mom, Heather,
Chloe, and everyone at my office thought the same thing.  It’s not
as if I don’t understand how to recover from trauma (I did spend 10
years balancing my body at the edge of it’s capabilities), or am a
glutton for pain (my body’s voracious appetite for Percocet
demonstrates that).  I just had stuff to do, and as long as I was
able to do it, I figured I would.  And yes, I left work and went
home for the day before I took the narcotics.  I’m not an idiot either.  ;)

The procedure was straightforward throughout.  Started with the
prerequisite "you have beautiful teeth" that I get every time, then
numbed me up, ranked on my jaw for 30 minutes (with three brief pauses:
one to sit up and swallow, and two to cut my bottom teeth in half), and
then I was done.  Moist gauze came out in 45 minutes, novacaine
wore off about 2.5 hours later, aside from the front-left corner of my
tongue and lips which persisted for two more hours, rode home an hour
and half after that, took some drugs and then slept for a couple
hours.  Now I’m awake, a little achy (suprisingly, at least to me,
is that it’s my jaw joint - which surely has a better name - that’s the
most sore, not the tooth holes), with imperceptible swelling, and otherwise all good.

More Pics

Hello there!

Ok, so I realize I haven’t really been any better
than before about posting and all that.  But hey, I’ve been busy,
what can I say?

I don’t have much time to post, so just a
quick update.  Emery’s getting bigger every day.  Well, I
suppose Lindsay is as well, but it’s definitely more noticable in Emery
right now.  His carseat is quickly becoming too heavy for me to
carry around!  We’re going to have to move him to the convertable
seat in no time.  He’s finally smiling at me on a regular basis,
especially after I feed him.  Go figure.  I’ve now become,
"that cool lady with the boobs" to him.  Oh well, I suppose that’s
who I am to Barney as well.  Ha ha, just kidding.  Sorry, I’m
a little "sleepy delirious" today.  I had to get up early because
I was supposed to take Barney into town at 7:30 to get his wisdom teeth
removed.  I ended up not doing that though, because of course this
ended up being the one day that the kids decided to sleep in until
7:30!  So there I was, awake since 6, waiting for them to wake up
so I could get them ready to rush out the door, and they just kept
sleeping!  Barney ended up taking his bike in and I took him
fromthe dentist to his office at 9:00.  Crazy guy wanted to go
straight to work, swollen, bleeding mouth and all, and said he’ll ride
his bike home if he doesn’t take any of his pain meds.  Sounds
joyous doesn’t it?  ;)

Anyway, I just uploaded some more very random photos for your
viewing pleasure.  We went to Seattle this past Sunday to have a
nice dinner with Barney’s Aunt, Uncle, and Cousins, so there are a few
photos from that, and a few photos of the munchkins at home.  Enjoy

Overheard…

"a-pron…a-pron…a-pron"

"That’s right.  And who wears the apron?"

"Memere"

Photo Phabulous

I just uploaded some more photos
of us just hanging around, doing what we do.  There are some
attempted pictures of Emery smiling, but I haven’t managed to get a
really good one yet.  At least you’ll get the idea that he is
finally at least trying to smile!  ;)

I’ll try to post again tomorrow.  Right now, I’m starving.  Time for lunch!

Big Boy

Time for a quick Emery update.

I took Emery to his two month
appointment this morning and the doc said everything looked good.
He now weighs just over 13 and a half pounds and is measuring in at
just over 24 inches long.  He’s following in his sister’s
footsteps and growing like a weed!  We think he’s finally smiling
at us, however seldom and sporradic it may be, it’s still glorious when
he does.  I can’t wait for the cooing to begin.  Oh, he’s
also started actually playing a game!  We stick our tongue in and
out at him while saying, "blahda blahda blahda" like complete morons,
and when we stop, he actually starts sticking his tongue in and out
too!  We even got a smile after one episode, as though he knew
what a clever boy he was being.  Very entertaining.  Looks
like we may have another little clown on our hands!

Oh my gosh,
this has nothing to do with Emery, but Lindsay can now sing "Ring
Around The Rosie" perfectly.  It’s hysterical.  She even
throws herself on the floor at the end.  I’m going to try and film
it and put the clip on here within the week, so stay tuned.

Innocence

Lindsay and I were watching T.L.C. (A Baby Story) while we ate our
snack the other day, when a commercial came on about Hurricane Katrina,
and helping the victims and all that.  Lindsay looked up when she
heard the music, and got this look of concern and sadness on her face
that almost broke my heart.  She looked over at me and said, "Lady
sad.  House broken."  I told her she was right.  The
lady was crying because her house was destroyed in a big storm.  Lindsay
walked over to the t.v., looked back at me and asked, "Kiss better?"
and without waiting for an answer, planted a long kiss on the screen,
and looked back at me, smiled, and said, "All better now".

If only it were that easy my sweet girl.  If only.

Random

Look at this!  I’m posting again!  And I even have
pictures for you to see!  They’re nothing special, just us hanging
around this past weekend, but at least you get your dose of cuteness to
hold you over for a while.

What’s new…

Lindsay likes
broccoli.  We told her they were little broccoli trees, and she
thinks that’s pretty neat that she’s eating little trees.
;)  Hey, whatever works, right?

Lindsay, normally a very
good sleeper, has begun to fight going to bed.  Once she’s asleep,
she’s fine, but just the past week or so, she starts crying when we
leave her room.  We get through the whole bedtime ritual just
fine, she seems happy, we finish her book and kiss her goodnight, and
then the crying begins.  It only lasts for a minute, maybe two
tops, but it’s still just such a pain that she’s going to bed crying
instead of happy, like she used to, ya know?

Emery is
smiling, we think.  But only at Barney and Lindsay.  :(
I spend all day, slaving away, feeding and changing him, and he won’t
even crack a smile for me.  But Barney walks into the room and
says hello to him and he grins like a cheshire cat!  Grrrrrr.

Hmmm, what else…

We’ve
just been busy busy here with the normal chaos.  We’ve gone to the
mall a lot lately because they have a big, free, indoor play area that
Lindsay LOVES and asks to go to all the time.  That will come in
really handy during the nasty winter months, I’m sure.  The
weather has turned a little here, so no more beach or park pictures for
a while.  :(  But I’ll try to remember to take the camera
with me when we go to indoor play places too.

We went to a
festival of family farms this weekend, which was kind of fun, but
Barney and I realized half way through, that it will be much more fun
in about two years.  The kids just weren’t quite ready for
it.  Lindsay liked looking at all of the animals and everything,
but wasn’t confident enough to touch them.  Her favorite part of
the whole festival was the free cookie!  ;)

We also went out
to the horse barn I used to work at last weekend, and let Lindsay see
the horses.  Once again, not quite ready.  Her favorite part
of that trip was splashing in the "muddles".  She seems to have
combined mud and puddles into a new word.  I ask her if she wants
to put her boots on and splash in the mud puddles and she squeals,
"splash in muddles please!"  Too funny.

I’ll try to get on
and do some more updates later in the week, but I hear Emery crying
downstairs, so I better go tend to him again.  Will it never
end?  Upstairs… downstairs… upstairs… downstairs…
     ;)

Oh, go check out our random photos in the October Gallery
