Tiptoe Through The Tulips

Lindsay and I spent a beautiful Northwest day at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.  We played away several hours walking through row after row
of multicolored tulips and splashing in the copious mud puddles in
between them.  I can’t believe how much fun we had, and how much
she actually enjoyed it.  I had my doubts as to how patient a 15
month old would be walking around looking at flowers, but she was
awesome.  She single handedly destroyed several bunches of tulips
though, as one year olds don’t seem to get the concept of "stand here,
don’t move, and smile at the camera" when you plop them down in a field
and run away to take a picture.  ;)

She loved picking the tulips, and I realized that once I had asked her not to pick a certain color,
she wouldn’t try it again, but sure enough, when we went over to a new
color patch, she’d touch one and look at me like, "can I pick these ones?"  Kids crack me up.

So
we destroyed tulips, got soaking wet in muddy water, witnessed an
amazing display of nature’s brilliance and variety in flowers, and
loved every minute.  I haven’t had so much fun in quite a while
and I’m considering dragging Barney out there with us this weekend if
it’s as nice as it was today.  For now though, enjoy the many pictures
I managed to snap in between picking Lindsay up out of puddles, telling
her not to eat any more mud, and saving hundreds of defenseless tulips
from the wrath of my daughter.  ;)

Oh my, I’ve been laughing at all the pictures!!! I see in # 38 & #45 the trail of dead flowers that little darlin’ left in her wake.

Heather, thanks so much for this. What a hoot!!

Oh, how beautiful! I love tulips. I so wish they were in bloom more than just one month out of the year. That close-up of Lindsay smelling the tulip is adorable… definitely frame-able!

Great pictures! Lindsay looks so cute! You should enter some shots into Walmart’s Tulip Festival photo contest (at the B’ham or Burlington stores). The “One Last Pic” one is my favorite!
