S-M-R-T

As I’ve mentioned before, Lindsay never ceases to amaze us with how intelligent she seems on a pretty regular basis.

Except for one thing.

I’m afraid I may have stunted her cup-holding abilities somewhat by
never giving her a bottle, and therefore never letting her figure out
how to drink by herself.  Until a week ago, every time Lindsay
wanted a drink of something, I’d tip the cup , hold it for her, and let
her drink what she wanted.  I recently became tired of this
though, and grew a little concerned that she wasn’t doing this on her
own yet.  Why would she if she doesn’t have to though, you
say.  I know, I know.  That’s why I’ve started trying to make
her hold her own cup to drink, which she does just fine, and has for a
while.

But, she can’t seem to figure out that you have to tip the cup to get
the liquid to a spot you can drink it!  She’ll just sit there,
sucking in vain on air, holding the cup in a perfectly vertical
position rather than tipping it so that it sits horizontally.
I’ve tried gently pushing her elbows up and saying "lift it", hoping
she’d catch on, but this is the one thing she has not caught onto right
away.  I’m at a loss.

My next step will be to just give her a normal cup, filled with some
water, to let her spill all over herself so that she figures out she
can’t get to the liquid until she tips it up.  Should be messy,
but hopefully it’ll teach her the valuable lesson she needs to learn!

Even More Pictures

It wasn’t a very eventful night, so we snapped some more pics for you all to enjoy.

Is She Walking? Well, Sort Of…

Ok, a quick update before I make some dinner.

I think we can let people know that Lindsay is walking
Well, at least every once in a while, for short little jaunts.
She’s practicing all the time, but still hasn’t quite figured it out
for more than say, half a room.  It’s so cute when she tries
though.  She focuses so hard and picks up speed as though that
just might help her stay on her feet, but her head just ends up getting
past her center of gravity and pulling her over in the long run.  ;)

She has started giving hugs as well as kisses, and will
blow kisses when asked for.  She also seems to be working really
hard on her language development, and will try to mimic what we say but
usually only gets out the first consonant of the word.  So "dog"
is "dah" and "ball" is "boh", you get the picture.

We had her
1 year doctor’s appointment yesterday, where she had to get four more
awful shots in her poor legs.  She’s a trooper though and got
over it really quickly.  She now weighs 24 and a half pounds, and
measures in at almost 32 inches.  She’s in the 90th to 100th
percentile in all of her measurements.  I had no misconceptions
that I would ever have a tiny, petite little baby, and Lindsay
definitely isn’t.  ;)

I posted some pics in a new February Gallery
this evening.  Sorry they’re nothing too exciting, but I just
thought I’d at least put something on here for you to look at!  ;)
More to come…
