Ok, I’ve realized there are a couple of things that have happened in
the past week or two that I haven’t blogged about, so here goes.
As a person who grew up in a freaking zoo (horses, dogs, cats, lizards,
fish, birds, ferrets, chinchillas, sugar gliders, hamsters, rabbits,
etc), I absolutely love animals, and feel a bit sad that we don’t have
one as part of our family. So, a couple weeks ago, I finally
broke down and was going through animal withdrawals and bought Lindsay
and I a baby hamster. It’s not a dog, I know, it’s a rather
useless little animal so it’s not exactly part of the family, but we
both get so much enjoyment out of it, so I think it was worth the $6 in
the long run. I won’t even tell you what Barney suggested
for a name, as his mother would faint, but until he comes up with a
nicer name, we’re calling it Peanut. Lindsay spent most of this
evening laughing at the crazy circus hamster who was climbing her water
bottle and trying to pull a houdini out of her cage. Each
unsuccessful attempt sent her falling to the shavings below, where she
would bounce, and Lindsay would giggle like crazy.
Barney is slowly warming up to Peanut, as he’s not exactly an animal
person. He, on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from me,
grew up in a house with no pets, (largely due to the fact that his mom
is terribly allergic to animals) so he never caught the "animal bug",
nor ever learned that animals can be a wonderful asset to the family,
and teach children all sort of wonderful lessons. Heck, if I
hadn’t had horses and dogs to train and take care of in my life growing
up, I could very well have gone on a less than desirable path due to
lack of activity and responsibility. But Barney even pet
and fed Peanut the other night. I was really impressed and my
heart swelled that my love for animals might slowly be rubbing off on
him.
I think eventually I might be able to talk him into a dog. A
little dog. Almost like a cat. That he won’t really
notice. That I can hide in my purse. ;) Just
kidding. mostly… That’ll be several years from now
though, maybe when the munchkins are both in school and I want another
"baby" to take care of. And Barney can’t say no to me AND our
cute little pleading kids, right?
Ok, totally off topic, but the other new thing is that we bought a cool
jogging stroller/bike trailer that holds two kids. We’ve already
gone on a few rides, and many walks, and I love it. Lindsay seems
to as well because she has the whole thing to herself right now, so she
gets to stretch out with her blanket, water bottle, and book, and just
go along for the ride. I’ve never been much of a biker, but this
has been really fun, and a welcome alternative to walking. It’s a
blast to be able to go so much faster, and get a chance to see more of
our local trails. I’m also staying in shape, which is an added
bonus. Please, please let the nice weather continue so I can keep
using it!
I’ll surely take some pictures this weekend when Dodo and Jerry visit,
so you’ll get some updates on Monday. Sorry I’ve been so bad
about keeping up on the blogging, I’ll try to get back into a
routine.
LOL
Now I’m dying to know what the name is!!!! (But I think I know) OK, tell me tomorrow. Can’t wait.
Hee hee hee. I love the idea of you getting a dog you can hide in your purse so Barney won’t know! God, I got a laugh outta that! But you have to keep in mind, if you have to bend over to pet it, its NOT a dog!
As for the bike/stroller, that’s great! Any way you can bring the family together, have fun, AND get exercise it fabulous! Now we need to see the pictures.
About the lack of blogging. I was just teasing you mostly because this is the only way we communicate anymore. So your lack of blogging is just us drifting apart! Don’t do that! Esp since you hardly ever reply to emails anymore….
I agree that you must have a pet. When Lindsay is a little older, all she’ll have to do is bat those big blue eyes at Barney, and he’ll let her have any kind of dog she wants.
Hooray for the jog stroller! Hooray for biking instead of running!
