Summer Fun

Lindsay, Barney, and I went to the MOMS Club family picnic/BBQ yesterday. It was a lot of fun, but I’ve decided we should have done it today instead, because the weather was so much better! We endured the wind and sprinkling, hudling in the picnic shelter while a brave few barbequed our food for us all in the rain. What can I say, we’re Northwesterners to the core. It was cool to be able to meet all of the husbands that we hear so much about but never get to see, even though they were all fairly non-social types, and just stood around behind their wives, staring into space. ;)
The kids had fun taking turns trying to bust open a pinata filled with fruit snacks and little trinkets. Lindsay found this event to be utterly hysterical. Each time a little boy walked up to the pinata with his little whiffle bat and swung with all his might, Lindsay burst into hysterics. Not just giggling, but full on guffawing ’til she lost her breath. It probably didn’t help that I was whispering “kill it, kill it” into her ear each time they took a swing. I don’t think she understands that yet, but man, she thought it was pretty funny!

Life As We Know It

We’re back to our regular old schedule after being thrown into the chaos that is my sister’s life at the moment. ;)
Lindsay and I helped Chloe and Patrick move to their new shop…..well…if we’re going to be completely honest, Lindsay mostly whined at me from accross the room in her Johnny Jump Up, and I spent half of the time feeding or consoling her. :) But at least the thought was there, right?

I learned how to do wall texturing, molding application, I painted, sanded, vaccuumed, swept…the list goes on and on.

Lindsay learned how to emit a constant droning whine while chewing on her fist in an effort to push her teeth through her gums, all while bouncing without pause! She also learned how to push herself up into a sitting position from a crawling one, so I think we both came out of the weekend having learned some valuable life skills.

Sorry, no pictures…..we were really busy……that and I suck at remembering to lug around the camera.

beelden!

Couple new photos for your viewing pleasure. More will undoubtedly follow, though how soon, I am unable to say.

The Smell of Freedom

So, after spending a month riding my motorcycle around, I’ve come to the conclusion that a great part of the enjoyment of riding comes from the fact that you can actually smell things on your journeys, rather than just the stale air of a car.

There’s not a lot to smell, in general, but those serendipitious moments when you catch a whiff of something and it brings forth pleasurable thoughts…… Lets just say it’s a welcome break from the daily grind. Of course, you also get diesel and manure in all their glory, but I’m convincied it’s part of the reason people ride, most of them blissfully unaware that their mind is selfishishly using them.

There’s the thought of the week from Heather’s guest author.

On The Road Again…..

Well, here we go again…..

Lindsay and I are off to Portland again. We’ll be gone from Sunday evening to Friday evening, and I’ll try to post at least once while we’re there.

We’re going down to help my sister and her husband move their business to a new location. Doesn’t sound like the most enjoyable activity in the world, but hey, it’s family, so I feel compelled to help out.

Hopefully I’ll get some good pictures while we’re there, and I’ll have a bunch to post when we get back, along with pictures of my new van, and pics from when Barney’s parents came to visit. Stay tuned….

Moms Night Out

I went to my first moms night out with the MOMS Club I belong to, and it was great! Once a month, they set up a fun activity that we go do without the kiddos, whether it’s just meeting at someone’s house and playing games, or going out to dinner or the movies, or a spa evening, or, like Friday, something crafty, like scrapbooking or painting.

We went to a place where you can pick out a piece of unfinished (unfired and unglazed) pottery, and paint it yourself. They then fire it for you, and you pick it up a few days later and get to see the finished result. It’s a lot of fun, very relaxing, and cool to have your own piece of art that you can take home and put on display!

I’ve done this before, once with Barney, and once with my friend, Kealoha, and I enjoy it every time. I’ve made Lindsay an adorable piggy bank, made a really cute Santa candy dish, and last Friday, made a little “farm theme” cereal bowl for when Lindsay gets older. I’d totally recommend doing it if you haven’t before.

Barney got to spend an evening alone with the girlie for the first time, so that was good. They just hung out, played, ate, and watched the Olympics until I got home. Then I fed her again and put her to bed. What a nice evening. I think I’ll do this every month!

Gum Splitting Fun!

Poor little Lindsay is teething.

Now, I know I’ve said before on this site that I thought she was teething, I think around month four or five, but this time, I’m sure. She has let me know for sure. Her waking up three times a night, biting everything in sight, drooling all the time, grinding her gums together while moaning like a banshee 24/7 has let me know for sure, that she is, in fact, teething.

I finally broke down today and we went to Freddies and bought some oragel for her poor throbbing gums. (I’m so tempted to smear my mouth with the stuff before heading to the dentist at the end of the month! But I can just imagine myself walking in, opening my mouth in a nice smile to talk to the receptionist, and promptly drolling all over the desk because my entire mouth, including my tongue has fallen asleep!) ;) Anyway, we’ll see how it goes for the girlie tonight. I’m hoping it will help her to get a full night’s sleep again.

She was not the happiest munchkin today, let’s just put it that way. Please God, let her teeth all come in quickly so that I can have my sweet little girl back! Oh, but please, please, don’t let her start biting me while I’m feeding her, because I’d like to keep breastfeeding for a little while longer and she’s already destroyed my boobs enough as it is.

Oh, sorry, TMI? :)

Please….God….NO!!!!

I soooooooo don’t like going to the dentist.

It might have something to do with the fact that I have had the worst teeth in creation, ever since they first came in. I unfortunately inherited my mother’s very large teeth, and my father’s tiny jaw, posing the obvious problem that I have too many teeth, and no where near enough room! I’m missing like eight of my permanent teeth now because they had to be ripped or cut out when I was young, so that they weren’t all sticking out at weird angles and such!

Ask my closest friends and family, and they’ll tell you, with great humor, about how strange I looked in my preteen years because my upper canines came out through my gums, well above the rest of my teeth, making me look like some sort of freaky, prepubescent vampire! As if a preteen doesn’t have enough awkwardness in appearance to deal with! It’s a miracle I turned out as emotionally and mentally stable as I did! (Hey, no smirking!) ;)
So, needless to say, I have a slight dislike of going to the dentist. That may be why I haven’t gone in about 6 years, since my Mom made me go at the end of high school! I know, I know….that’s really bad. So, I finally went in last week, and man, I almost wish I hadn’t!

8.

Now, depending on how you look at that number, it may not sem like an abnormally large one, but when it’s in terms of CAVITIES, it IS!
8 CAVITIES!
No, I’m not joking! They said I brush extremely well, but the fact that I don’t floss has allowed cavities to form between the teeth! I now have to have two seperate appointments where needles will be plunged into my tender and sensitive gums, my eyes will well with tears, just like when I was enduring the torture when I was little, and I will have the centers of 8 teeth drilled out and filled in with foreign material.

*whimper*

Maybe this will finally teach me to floss! :P

A New Job!!!!

Negotiations are still in the works, but it looks promising that I may have a new job in the near future. Not that being a stay-at-home mom is not taxing enough, but I’ll also now be providing daycare for my friend Kealoha’s 2 month old son five days a week when she returns to work. I’m looking forward to contributing financially to the household again, and also to the chance to get to know another adorable little munchkin! Wish me luck.

A New Car!!!!!!!!

Yes, it’s finally here! After a long, drawn out, convoluted mess, I finally have my new van! Let’s just be nice and say that all salesmen are NOT created equal. Some don’t even check the facts on the car they’re selling.

It is sooooooo nice to finally have a large car. It drives really well, is much quieter than my civic was, has all sorts of cool features, and has so much room to spare! I don’t even have to dismantle my stroller to get it in the back!

Mmmmmmmm, the new car smell……..

I’ll be sure to take some pictures of it this coming week and post them with the pics we have taken this weekend of Barney’s parents’ visit.
