Three Weeks

Lindsay is three weeks old today. Our first work week by ourselves seems to have gone pretty well. Heather’s not getting as much sleep as she could want, but seems to be getting enough to get by without issue. Lindsay has started sleeping during the night much better, which Heather enjoys. Unfortunately, she’s also starts sleeping less overall, which means that she’s awake a lot during the day, and usually cranky about it, because she still can’t entertain herself. Heather doesn’t enjoy that.

We’re planning on going down to Bob’s, the clubhouse restaurant at the golf course by our house for birthday dinner. Obviously it has nothing at all to do with the birthday, just to get us out of the house so we can relax a little. Hopefully Heather will be able to bank up some good sleep this weekend when I’m there all day to help entertain the munchkin.

New Gallery

I added another gallery this morning: Lindsay (@ Home II) with a handful of pictures from the past week. It’s been a while (bad Barney), but I’ve been busy helping Heather in the evenings now that it’s just us two, so I haven’t been as studiously posting stuff.

Whoops

I completely botched it packaging up the distribution archives for both PasswordSafe and the Glue/Paint Solver. They’re fixed now, about 50% of the size they were, and actually work when decompressed.

Nicer Non-Blog Pages At Last

Last night I did the first bit of refactoring of the non-blog pages of the site (namely the software pages) so they fit into the style of the site a little better. Since I don’t have internet access at the house, I had to do it all blind, without the luxury of even looking at the site while doing it, let alone having access to the layout templates that control it’s appearance. So it’s a little rough. I’ll get it more refined over the next little while.

Heather Update

Heather had another doctors appointment today to get her incision looked at. Seems to be healing nicely, though it’s obviously not back up to full strength yet. She’s got one more checkup in another 3-4 weeks and then she’ll be done.

Usage Reporting is Here

I wanted to get some usage reporting for this site so I could give Paul (my boss) accurate reports of the bandwidth I’m using over time. He was very nice in letting my leech off the company’s bandwidth allotment, and while I’m not using much, I want to make sure I track what I do use. For those crazy people out there, I figured I’d publish the bandwidth graphs for all to see. The data is exposed using the SNMP daemon built into RedHat, which MRTG monitors and feeds the data into RRDTool. Finally, the pages and graphs are generated by 14all in realtime.

Daddy, What’s Nighttime?

Ever since Lindsay was born, she’s had day and night flipped around. Sleep all day, cry all night. Very annoying. So Saturday night, we started trying in earnest to get that switched around. Not sure she really gets it, but she did figure out that I wasn’t going to pay attention to her all night, so she may as well go to sleep. Last night wasn’t quite so good, but mom was in charge, and she’s a softy. ; ) We’ll see how things go.

Two Weeks Old!

Lindsay turned two weeks old today. We were chastized for not celebrating last week, so this week my mom made a cake with a big ol’ 2 on it, just for her.

Lindsay also had her two week checkup. She weighed 10 pounds even, and was 22.25 inches long. That’s up 15 ounces and 0.75 inches from birth dimensions. The doc also said that the rash on the inside of her elbows might be a staph infection, so we’ve got some antibiotics to hopefully fix that up. Nothing like getting an early start on keeping the immune system dependant on drugs. Oh well.

New Galleries!

I found a pretty slick little tool named Galerie, which will generate web galleries from iPhoto albums. Unlike iPhoto, it uses external templates to control the generation. This allowed me to actually generate JSP pages, which then dynamically include layout files generated by MoveableType (the system driving this blog), and thus have consistent navigation throughout, whether MoveableType generated the given page or not.

I rebuilt all the galleries using this mechanism, and it looks good. I’ll undoubtedly refine the look a little, but that’s all CSS-driven, so I won’t even have to regenerate the pages.

More Photos

There’s a few new photos in the Lindsay (@ Home) gallery, including two with her personalized gifts (a blanket from Carrie and Sim, and bootie/shoes from Andy and Kelly).
